'Darkened Views' is a proposal for an exhibition and a lecture I made in collaboration with Brigitta van Weeren and Roos van Haaften for a art, architecture and technology manifestation at the Shanghai World Exhibition. The proposal includes a series of scale models of cities that are installed in separate dark spaces, which causes the models to become visible in a slow and time consuming way. In this way, the artwork questions the possibility of being in more than on place at the same moment, and at the same time refers to locality and the idea of a simulacrum.
The 1939 New York World Exhibition featured a lifesize copy of the Mayakovskaya metro station in Moscow and various scale models of future city life:
